Title: Trash or Treasure? Label
Post by: Jim Donati on May 04, 2010, 04:03:21
I recently stumbled upon this label in the interior cabin of my 1970 280SL. As I touched it, it fell off in my hand.
It was located inside the car mid-way up the bottom of the steering wheel column (between my knees as I sat in the drivers seat).

Does anyone have any idea if this label might have been something that was applied at the factory during manufacture?  Possible an inspector's mark?

If my goal is to keep my 280SL as original as possible, should I trash it, or reapply it?

Jim

Have no idea, but it looks like a label for a spare part - I'd stick it back on with a little glue...

Jim,

Wow, never seen before. :o
It's definitely not a spare part tag.

I'd keep it if I were you. But I don't know where it belongs.
You said it was located anywhere on the steering column? Can you find old remaining glue marks  on the column? Are your under-dash cardboards still in place?

No idea ...

Best,

I can easily identify where if fell off from the glue marks and because I saw it hanging by a corner before it fell off.  I will replace as everyone suggests.
I believe all my under dash cardboards are still in place.
