Hard Top to Body Rear Seal
« on: November 10, 2009, 14:55:31 »
Hello All!

Could someone please post a picture or 2 or 3 of your hard top to body seal.  I would like to see exactly how it is attached to each side (with the micro thin tabs), end, and also how it is glued to the top as it wraps around each side and around the rear "plug".  The pictures would be best taken with the hard top on your stand or as it hangs on your lift.  This would show the detail I am looking for.

Thanks for your help!
Bob

Hi, I don't have the answer for you, my HT is on the car for the winter, but....this might be a good place to mentioning something related to the topic at hand:

With the HT installed there seems to be always a gap between  the bottom rear  of the HT and the car body.....probably for good reason, to prevent the HT fro rubbing against the body ?! But it still bothered me.

Before I installed my HT recently I went to the Home Depot and bought some thick gray self adhesive whether stripping and installed it around the lower edge of the HT. When lowering the HT the seal compresses and forms a good seal.

Now I am happy, that nasty gap is less noticeable.

CHEERS !

Thanks John (and Witt)!

John, the pics are perfect!  Shows exactly what I was looking for!
Your one pic that shows the close-up of the seal with the metal tab is really what I wanted to see.
The new seals from MB have ~1/2 inch rubber tab on each end.  I thought the seal is positioned with the rubber tab under the metal tab.
However, installing it this way leaves too much excess overall seal...  So, to install it correctly, the seal is held by the metal tab a bit further back on the seal and the metal tab sits in the "groove" of the seal.
Thanks again!
Bob  :)
