Chrome Window Guide Install 1970 280SL
« on: September 22, 2015, 16:09:23 »
I have completed gluing my rail guides to to my windows and am ready to install the glass. On the top front of the door there is a chrome guide that installs to the top of the front rail. When I removed the guide to remove the glass I noticed that a filler or glue of some kind was used to install the guide. The guide has some "play" when installed into the rail without the filler/glue. Any recommendations on what to use to fill the gaps and to keep the guide in place?

Thanks in advance!

Tony

Tony,
this is quite common but most likely incorrect; remove the glue.
The guide will wobble a bit when installed but the wobble can be decreased by pressing the two weatherstrips ("whiskers") tightly against it. Unfortunately these are quite often cut too short.
Make sure you have the plastic slide and the clamping O-ring inserted in the chrome guide and don't tighten it too much!
