$11.5K for scrap metal?
« on: August 17, 2016, 18:49:57 »
http://www.beverlyhillscarclub.com/1967-mercedes-benz-230sl-pagoda-c-6220.htm

Looks like fire damage and if so then even the folding top frame may be distorted and useless.

I love the description "Great candidate for full restoration or strong parts car. Lots of potential."  Potential in the form of energy just prior to it being dropped by a crane.

I don't know where they get their cars but they always seem to look like crap.  I would imagine they got paid to haul this thing away.

Well guys, I think you are being a bit harsh - looks like the guards have the notches, the spare is good, and the heat from the fire may have stabilised the rust!!!

BTW, if it was stolen and burnt - they did a great job - fire was so hot it even melted the rocker cover - oh, I did notice a good wheel chock in the boot. Its a bit odd what the thinking was to make the useable spare a selling point?

As they say, no guts no glory in the restoration business.......

There was one in better condition than that after a fire near my place a few months ago and it went to the tip and taken away for scrap metal.

I guess the VIN and maybe some of the engine.

What's with the tire tread sitting in the cockpit?

Surely the first rule of selling is to have the item for sale clean and tidy, a little polish would not go astray…GOOD LUCK is all I can say!

Perhaps the purpose of the ad is simply to support the crazy prices that are often asked for rust bucket restoration projects?   One could imagine the same seller using this as evidence that a rough driver level car is worth $40,000.

I must say that looks a lot worse than the $15K car I looked at here in Michigan a couple of years ago for Pete Lesler. Some woman was trying to sell her Dad's legacy; car had sat for decades. Nothing organic remained, having long succumbed to mold, mildew, mice and more. Moreover, it was up a narrow winding 2-track and there would be no way to efficiently remove the "car" from its resting place without machinery riggers; a tow truck was out of the question. But this case at BHCC looks even worse!!!

this would make a good project as a display piece in a large bar or basement man cave maybe make a desk out of it. But price is too high. I wouldn't scrap it.

I've been to Beverly Hills Car Club, which BTW is no where near Beverly Hills.  It's in a lousy industrial neighborhood close to nothing nice.  They have sold a lot of junk to a lot of people.

If $11.5K was too rich for you, here's one that's more value-priced, at least for the time being. Note the seller's byline: "Drive your Dream"
