That is actually a near-complete 230SL motor with it! But the 280 motor is not original to the car, and the internal parts could have been stored a little more carefully! (photos 30 & 31). Hopefully someone will put it together.

There is some pretty horrible welding on the floors etc.  Front rail back ends under floors seem to be detached. If it needed new floors and a trunk floor what is lurking under the paint and inside the rocker panels.  Take a look at the front firewall from the inside and look at the patches on both sides.  Remember the entire front sheet metal and inner structure at the bottom depends on the joint between the rail end and the firewall/floor.  Pretty sad stuff.

I will agree I would like to see that car saved but the price is too high and welding work is horrible. So many hours and $$$ needed to make it whole and correct again. Better to spend more money to get a better car. No cheap way out on this one.

Someone will pick this up and continue the half assed restoration and when completed will end up for sale at one of the many self proclaimed "Classic Car Re-sellers". Then some unsuspecting buyer will see all the shinny paint, grossly overpay and in the end, may join this group to ask how to correct his/her misfortune.

Poor bastard!

If that thing is still in Clearwater, Fl. it's right  next to me but I wouldn't drive across town to look at it for that price.  I gave about the same price for mine two years ago and it was running and had no rust.  I have since lavished about 20K more on mine but have had the pleasure of driving it in the meantime.  Since I bought my car I have learned the cost of parts for these cars and if just a few of the many parts removed from this project car is missing it will cost a lot to acquire replacements and that doesn't even consider the labor involved in reassembly and making it roadworthy.  Hopefully no one on this forum will be tempted, at least not at that price.
