...he would drive this.

And he'd be small and furry  :)

Thanks! Yes I do, and I find it very hard not to keep coming back to the old Merc for photos when I bring out the camera..

One more, from behind the wheel. August 15th, the warmest night in Oslo 2015.

Indeed, but he can be ballsy too. He got into a fight with a badger the other day..!

Here seen in his favourite cockpit, on his favourite lap...

He would definitely drive a German car and speak with a very heavy accent ... His favorite expression would surly be ....

"I'll be back" :)

Nice pic btw!

Thanks, most appreciated.

Two more, one of which is another from August 15th, the warmest night of 2015 in Oslo (dashboard photo). A far cry from -18° now.

There were a couple of days in July that actually reached a higher temperature (27°), but this particular night in August the temperature stayed high throughout the evening also. I recall driving late at night with the top down, almost committing the unforgiveable sin of whining about hot weather in Norway(!). Back home, even later at night, I checked the temperature which hovered around 24°. Quite unusual, the city was bustling with people until early morning hours.

If the temperature stays above 20° throughout the night it is defined as a "tropical night" (at least in Scandinavia), doesn't happen too often.

I see you're Australian by the way, I spent a some years in Queensland and I suspect my time there made me too soft for the winter here..

Thats funny. It was warm here the other day, well actually hot, it got to 43c but cooled down over night to 30c. And I am 1500 km south of hands_aust.  Very different perspective. lol

Like a different planet! -14° today, these photos were taken on an island in the Oslo fjord, 5km south of the city centre this afternoon. No heat from that sun. And no SL in the photos, I don't take it out during winter - sorry :)

Thanks for the reply,
Fortunately we are having a fairly mild summer here with only a few 30 something days so far.
The southern states where Garry lives has been copping the heat this year.
Recently here the nights have been cool and early mornings, more so.
Having lived in Qld, you will know our climate well
A 27C day is quite delightful and ideal to be driving a top down Pagoda.
Great pics BTW

I just had to create an account to say what a lucky guy you and everyone here are. God I've loved this car since I was a wee kid playing World Racing, scanning MB shops for it and events. It's such a lovely piece of art and I wish you all the luck. Your decedents must be jealous. :P

Well, I had to say that. Good day.

Hi Solbekk in beautiful Oslo

I was interested in your pic with the cute dog, as it appears your '68 280SL is equipped with a steering wheel very similar to mine (see photo). My "Goldie" is a very early 280SL (6 January on the data card), elegant in its metallic beige finish, as is yours in silver. I have often wondered if the wheel was an original option. Unfortunately, my wheel is missing the decorative ring aroound the boss. Your photos also remind me that I must replace my after market carpet with the original 280 SL loop pile.

Regards

Oops. Wrong picture attached to my previous response. This is the photo of my very similar steering wheel. I was in Oslo in late July 2015 and we enjoyed some very lovely warm evenings. Unfortunately, I didn't have my Pagoda with me, so was unable to take advantage of the weather for driving purposes. Cheers.

Small anecdote - when I first became a full member I asked the then-webmeister to assign me member number 007. He did. The only time I ever felt like Bond. Joe Alexander got 017 (Joe's tags all read JA 17 I think). BTW I really like those aluminium steering wheels...

Cees, the JA 17 is Joe's first license plate for his then 190 SL (as i understand it)  i have a picture of the plate on one of my devices taken in his garage last year at PUB (found the pic, enlarge and you can see it).
