Question: I am thinking of consigning my Pagoda to Cosmopolitan Motors who are located in the Seattle area. They specialize in classic and exotic cars. I was wondering if anyone is familiar with Cosmopolitan, or more accurately, what's the best way to market a car like this?

I got the impression he was asking about the reputation of the consignment shop or how to best market it, not soliciting offers from the forum.

The posting has been moderated to allow Steve to ask his questions on how best to sell his 280SL rather than an unpriced post in the For Sale area.

Why not post photos and a price here, someone here might like to purchase your car.

I get the impression he doesn't know a price, but wants opinions about the suitability of a particular broker.

Exactly Scoot, which is why I have moderated his post and put his general question here so he can get some assistance from Members on his enquiry and not as origionally headed “280SL for Sale”.

To return to the question.

If you are comfortable dealing with potential buyers yourself, you can post it in the For Sale section here, try an ad in the MBCA Star magazine, or list it in the Mercedes Heritage classifieds, or even put it on e-Bay.  IMO, the keys in these venues are good pictures, a description of the car and its history that is factual and believable, and a realistic price.

On the other hand, a place like Cosmopolitan will handle the customers and give your car exposure to a bigger audience.  Being in the business, they may be able to get a better price for the car so you might break even or better than selling it yourself.

I have wandered around Cosmopolitan a couple of times and they seem to be nice people and they have had nice cars on the floor.  They have been in business for a long time so they must be doing something right.  However, they are not known for their Mercedes expertise.  You can always google them and ask them for a couple of references.

Like Rolf-Dieter said, if you post some pictures and details about your car, we may be able to give you some guidance on pricing.

Good luck,

CT

The original post goes back to September. I really don't understand people who post questions here, which are then answered by our members, and then these people never bother to or don't have
the courtesy to come back and acknowledge......I don't know why, but this sort of thing winds me up  :'(  maybe I'm just being a grumpy old man  >:(
