W111 rear tail lamp trim seal references
« on: September 11, 2014, 21:42:00 »
I am moving in the right direction on my 220seb coupe as it is now center of attention. I am ready to put the rear tail lamps in. The there is rubber trim seal that runs along the top edge of the rear tail lamps. I have the new seals but will need to fit and trim them. Most cars don't have them on for reference. Does anyone have good reference shot they can share of their tail lamps that clearly shows these trim seals?
Thanks much.

My trim isn't original but here is a pic of how I matched the profile by cutting them off at a slight angle to match the bezel angle.

Did all W111 coupe/cabs with all red tail lights have that seal? MIne didn't have them but it had some rear damage and could have been removed prior.

Do you have the seal part number?

Thanks,

Wallace,
fyi, the spare parts list edition B for 250SE/C - 280SE/C (Jan 1968) does not show a seal or a p/n for it.

The seal is PN# 111-826-51-97 and you will need to order two. We used to sell them through The Coupe Group, and other restorers still do online, but once the Classic Center started restocking them recently there really is no reason to buy from anyone other than them as their price is lower than what we, or the other restorers, could achieve. They are $2.40 each through Tom at the Classic Center. Don't pay $40 on eBay.

Hi,

None of the w111s with the old style red taillight had these seals.
So if you want to go the original route, there's no need to get them.

I agree with Hans.
We had several discussions about these rubber strips for W113 lamps but it applies also to W111 lamps:
