Clock calibration

I've been testing my  230sl clock and found it is advancing about 7 minutes per hour: 2 hours and 48 minutes each day!!!

Do you think that playing with the calibration screw may fix such a great advance?

my experiences say No, I had the same problem, this is too fast, you need a general overhaul before everything is damaged.

If you take your clock to a watch/clock repair person have them set it to 16,200 BPH (beats per hour). that is the standard setting for the clock.

Hi,
the general overhaul was done by a professional clockmaker here in Germany: www.uhrmacher-meyer.de/
He already did a lot of pagoda clocks.

A clock or watch repair person will know what that measurement is. It is almost like using an RPM gauge or tachometer to measure the revolutions per minute of your engine. A clock is set to a measured beats per hour or the "tick tocks" of the mechanism. All mechanical clocks differ on that measurement depending on the "train" of the clock or the amount of gears and the number of teeth on each gear.

My clock was always late....it was running late more than one our/day.
Today i have just sent it to repair in UK ...http://www.jdo1.com.... John Ostick is the owner and he looks reliable so i hope to receive it back within 3 weeks.......if you are interested  you can contact him on the web site; If you prefer you can wait my experience before putting  in touch......

I sent mine to him,  just 2 days later returned, as new, full return policy if needed, £60  all in.  Fantastic service!  Yet to run the clock for a week or so to check it but so far so good.

Mine was working bur hour hand was stuck, fuse needed renewing and needed cleaning and he even fixed a small dent in the bezel.

yes googd experience even for me.....sorry for my late report..:
this is to inform about my good experience in having back repaired my electromechanical VDO clock: John D Ostick JDO Instruments Web address : www.jdo1.com; he was really nice and fast in repairing it and sending it back to Italy....just a few days and furthermore very cheap, around 85 euro....someone else asked me around 180 euro and more than 90 days!!!!
Now it is right and really... o'clock!
I disclosure i have no interest in promoting this company....... i just want to help good company!

Good to know. I will need to send mine also. It' still advancing 2 minutes per hour.   It was 7 before so the calibration screw did work but could not cope with the last 2 minutes.

All this discussion about clocks, I decided to send mine away.    It was correct only 2 times per day.   I sent it to David Lindquist and just got it back all nice and pretty and working.   Cheap like Borscht.

You should have left it as is - Borscht is only correct once per day!  ;D ;D
