1969 Euro 280SL

This 1969 Euro 280 SL has been Peter Krahn's ride since October 2000. The blue beauty and Peter are in Armstrong, British Columbia, Canada.

  • VIN number: 113044-10-007055
  • Engine number: 130983 10 002378
  • Produced: 10 Jan 1969

The car was purchased by Peter October 2000 in Denver, Colorado. The previous owner's father had purchased the car from the original German owner in 1970 for $5,885. The original owner brought the car to the US. Peter purchased the car for $10,500 but before your eyes grow wide at the nice price, read on about the restoration.

In October 2000, the odometer showed 113,000 km (about 70,000 miles). Peter drove the car home from Denver (about 1,000 miles) without incident.

The was car restored and re-painted. Much of the restoration work was done by Peter and his son Jeral (a certified autobody mechanic). Peter farmed out the mechanical work, seat re-covering, front and back windhshield installation, and hardtop re-lining.

The restoration was extensive (and expensive): disassembly of drivetrain, rebuild of engine bottom end, (top end had already been done); all new seals, hoses, belts; new clutch, pressure plate, release bearing, shifter bushings, engine and transmission mounts; new shocks, brake rotor assemblies, and pads.

Interior and other work included: Brightwork rechromed where necessary, new carpet, new leather seat covers, other leather restored with Leatherique products; headliner replaced, new wood; new convertible top; original Becker Europa Stereo radio re-installed; heater controls, original VDO clock repair. Cost: US$28,000.

New paint went on after a take down to bare-metal. Color is Dupont DB 931 Metallic Magnetite Blue with clear coat; not available in 1969. The original color was Deep Forest Green, DB 268, with Dark Green top Code 747.

The Euro 280 SL came with the original Bill of Sale, manuals, and maintenance documentation.

Rear axle ratio on this Euro is 3.92.
